5 Engagement Proposal Mistakes That You Don't Ever Want To Make

By: Richardo Butler Butler

Did you know that someone once put there partner in hospital trying to propose.

It's a true story! Someone put their engagement ring inside a drinking glass and as they made a toast for the big speech, there partner drank it all down, ring and all. Don't worry; they did survive, but only after a trip to the hospital.

It's sad to say, but proposal mistakes like this happen all the time and if you’re not careful it could happen to you. Please don't make the same mistake!! Here are five mistakes you do not want to make.

1. MAKING YOUR PROPOSAL A PUBLIC AFFAIRE

It could be a party or a night out with the family, but realize that you should never make your proposal to your partner if they would not be happy about you doing it in public. Not only could it be very embarrassing for them, but they could feel like they are being put under pressure to say "yes", only to have to tell you truth later. Keep in mind the type of person your partner is, they may be shy or want to keep it a private event between the two of you.

2. GOING OVER THE TOP WITH THE PROPOSAL

A lot of people think that to have an amazing proposal all you have to do is do the usual romantic gestures rolled up into one day and then call it a marriage proposal. Unfortunately this is not the way to go. For example you serve up a favorite meal with candlelit dinner, plus you bring out the chocolate with flower and a teddy bear. And then go for the big proposal!!!

Sorry, but that is not a once in a life time experience. It’s just a standard romantic evening sandwiched together. And at the end of the night out pops an engagement ring which is something that will change the rest of your partner’s life. No, what is needed is a bit more thought and imagination, something out of the norm!

3. BEING UNPREPARED

Proposing to your partner is not a hit or miss affair. It will require some kind of plan and that plan should be rehearsed and practiced so that everything will work out on the night. Create a back up plan just in case something does go wrong. Especially if you are trying an elaborate proposal, you will need to take extra care. Call up your friends and family for some help and do some brainstorming for sticky situations that may come up on the day. You never know what might happen, so it's best to be prepared.

4. SPENDING LOADS OF MONEY

You might be thinking, “how is spending loads of money going to cause a problem". Well sometimes money can be used as a substitute for using your creativity. As a result, you create a nice proposal, spending lots of cash, but it ends up being something that will not be remembered for ever.

5. DOING WHAT EVERYONE ELSE HAS DONE BEFORE

This is a road that you do not want to go down. Creating a unique proposal does not have to hard work, but it is well worth using your brain to create a well though out proposal that will be remembered for ever!!!

When you make your proposal to your partner, it needs to be made a personal proposal. A proposal that recognizes the uniqueness of your partner. For example what is there favorite color, hobbies or interests? These are the things that will make your proposal unique and an incredible once in a lifetime experience that is remembered and talked about for years.

While dinner at your favorite restaurant and the waiter bring out the ring on a platter might be an ok idea. It is not going to go down as the most creative or original idea in history.

Don't make your proposal, the mistake of your life!
